The iconic Shepperton Studios have been expanding for the past few months as part of the Pinewood Group’s vision to create 17 additional stages totalling over 1.2 million square feet. SafeStand® Ltd has supplied our low-level access systems to the Laing O’ Rourke project to construct the internal blockwork walls within these spaces and studios. Swift Brickwork Ltd is responsible for the blockwork package on the £500 million project, and they have chosen the SafeStand systems to construct the walls up to 4000mm in height. SafeStand® has supplied two distinct systems (SafeStand 1200 & SureStand 800) to accommodate the various wall heights required. Due to the SafeStand® simplicity and ease of use, it allows Swift Brickwork to build walls of varied lengths and heights at their own pace, independent from other trades using traditional methods.

With the completion of Real Group’s Imperial Park Care Home drawing ever closer, we look back to the internal blockwork package being undertaken by Sandford Builders. A period where SafeStand Access Systems assisted with all internal access requirements and provided a safe working platform for building internal blockwork walls.

Upon delivery of the SafeStand 1200 system to site, we carried out training with Sandford Building Contractors, and Real Group’s site manager Paul, who also took a keen interest. Due the greater overall working height of the SafeStand 1200 with a maximum platform at 2200mm, there was a requirement for loading bays. This greatly reduced the manual handling aspect of ‘loading out’ and increased productivity.

We have a been back to Imperial Park to see the progress of the project and we are pleased to find out both Real Group and Sandford Builders are utilising SafeStand Access Systems again.

Recently a number of SafeStand employees took part in a full day IOSH Certified SafeStand Training Course. The practical element consisted firstly of a demonstration of one section of SafeStand 1200, complete with Diagonal Bracing and a Staircase Access (see photo below) and SureStand 800. This was followed by supervised erection in pairs by the trainees. This whole process was watched over by and planned in collaboration with experienced IOSH Assessor Brian Parish from Logic SHE Solutions, who are the registered license holders for this training course.
